Getting the domain name registrar
- For full documentation visit Netlify|Docs.
- For support visit Netlify|Community.
The registrar is where your custom domain is registered, which is typically where you bought it, although you can move custom domains to a different registrar if you wish (subject to some restrictions). Testing for the registrar confirms that the custom domain is, in fact, registered, and allows those with experience with the same registrar to give more precise help in terms of making DNS entries or delegating DNS.
whois registrar results

Notes
- Different registrars provide this information in different formats, so sometimes the results will be blank. Should this happen, you can determine the registrar via the Terminal command
whois yourcustomdomain.com
. The results of this command can be extensive but you will be able to scan the report to find the registrar. - There is no point in checking the registrar for your Netlify subdomain.
- If you are looking for a good registrar, I have used Namecheap for many years and have always been pleased with their prices and service.
